“AI companion” covers two very different kinds of product. Emotional-support companions are built to help you talk through what is happening, put feelings into words, and notice patterns over time. Romance and roleplay companions, such as Replika and Nomi, are built around a relationship with a character you design, with avatars, relationship statuses, selfies, and storylines. Both can be pleasant to talk to, but their own terms say the second kind is not mental health support. This page is about the first kind, and we include the second only so you can see the difference.
We make Vent Now, so read this knowing where we stand. Every detail about another product comes from its official site, help center, terms, or app store listing, and we say plainly when another app is the better fit. None of these apps is therapy or an emergency service.

1. Vent Now
Ongoing emotional support that remembers your story and the patterns in it
Emotional companionText and voiceText Aspen in iMessage
Vent Now is built for one job: emotional support. You talk with Aspen by text or voice on iPhone, Android, or the web, or text Aspen directly in iMessage (US numbers). Aspen remembers prior conversations and connects moods, triggers, and recurring patterns over time, alongside mood tracking, guided breathing, and calming exercises. It was built with a licensed therapist on the team, and a subscription is required.

2. Wysa
Structured exercises for stress, low mood, and anxiety
Guided self-helpAI chat and guided prompts
Wysa pairs AI chat with a care library of exercises designed by its clinical team, drawing on CBT, solution-focused therapy, and mindfulness. Wysa says it is designed for people experiencing low mood, stress, or anxiety, and that it is not recommended for crisis situations. Talking to Wysa AI is free, a premium version adds more tools, and some versions offer human coaching at an additional cost.

3. Pi
A free, easygoing conversation when you just want someone to listen
Personal AIText and voice on iPhone, Android, and the web
Pi, from Inflection AI, calls itself a personal intelligence partner, and its App Store listing suggests using it to prep for a hard conversation or just vent. You can type or talk, and Pi keeps lasting details about you as memories you can manage in settings. Its listing and help center do not describe mood tracking, and Inflection AI’s terms say it is not a substitute for professional advice and not intended for anyone under 18.

4. ChatGPT
One assistant for reflection and everything else in your day
General AI assistantText, voice, images, and files
ChatGPT is a general AI assistant for writing, research, planning, images, files, and voice. With memory turned on, it can reference saved memories and past chats, and you can review, correct, or delete what it remembers. Emotional support is one use among many, and it is not built around a dedicated mood history.

5. Replika
A companion relationship with an avatar and a status you choose
AI companionText, voice calls, and an avatar
Replika calls itself a personal chatbot companion. You choose what your Replika is to you, such as a friend, mentor, or virtual girlfriend or boyfriend, and its help center also describes mood tracking, coping skills, and calming conversations. Its terms say Replika is not a healthcare provider, that it should not be considered mental health services, and that people under 18 are not authorized to use it.

6. Nomi
A character relationship with roleplay, romance, and long memory
AI companionText, voice messages, and calls on iPhone and the web
Nomi, from Glimpse.ai, is built around relationships with AI characters: a friend, a mentor, or an AI girlfriend or boyfriend, plus roleplay, group chats, selfies, and art. It advertises strong short- and long-term memory. Its terms say a Nomi should never be relied on for medical or mental health advice, and the service is for adults 18 and over.
